Presentation Day... Woo Woo!

My group and I are about to present a video that we created on cyberbullying. We worked hard on this video, and feel like our class is going to enjoy it!

(Presentation)

I feel the presentation went good! Cyberbullying is a huge issue in today's schools, and it was good to hear what future teachers think about the issue. Lots of good points were brought up throughout our discussion! Mike said it best, we need to start teaching students at a young age about cyberbullying and the effects of it! Students think that it is just a fun joke, it may be for them, but not for the person being bullied! They need to be taught that it can cause serious physical and emotional harm to an individual.

Even when I was in junior high it was a big issue (As some may recall a Rumor page). People were able to post comments about others in and around their community, and usually they were hurtful ones.

Today, we hear about it during our student teaching placements all the time. This is something that all teachers should be aware of, and when confronted with, should deal with!

Internet Presentation- Good presentation guys!! I learned a lot of things I didn't know prior to this presentation! Its scary to think that one day we could be charged for blogging, higher prices for music, etc. This would limit our use of the internet in schools, and could cause a lot of problems for teachers!

  1. I agree. With all this new technology kids are constantly finding new ways to be mean to each other. But I think talking to kids about bullying is just telling them something they already know. I think to get to the root of the problem we need to hold kids to higher expectations. There is such a lack of accountability for students. I think the new 'late policy' is a good example of this. We lower our expectations for students to hand in assignments and now we are facing the biggest battle ever in getting things handed in at all! We need to create higher expectations for our students and hold them accountable. This is the only way to truly eliminate bullying in schools.

  2. yes, children need to realize the effects and develop an awareness of bullying and where it can exist (physically/real-world vs. verbally/cyber-world). I thought you guys did a splendid job with your presentation. You had wonderful examples and I enjoyed the voice overs that you did on the YouTube video. I also thought that the interview video was such a great idea. I commend you guys on a awesome job.

  3. Great blog Dani! I like what Joaney said about holding students accountable. That is something that our generation really didn't have stressed on us and the generations that come through the schools when we are out teaching are only going to be worse. They think that they can get away with things without facing real consequences, and it seems like they're right. We need to be raising our kids to be proud of doing the right thing and standing up for one another.
